In 2025, nearly 19,000 prison sentences were issued in Uzbekistan

According to the Supreme Court’s official data, during 2025 criminal cases were reviewed in a large volume in the country’s courts. In particular, 63,177 criminal cases involving 79,554 individuals were considered in court hearings.
By the end of the year, a total of 63,340 people were convicted. Of them, 18,816 were sentenced to imprisonment. The remaining 43,531 received other types of penalties. Another 993 people were punished on the basis of a suspended sentence.
According to the statistics, the main share of those convicted were men — 55,829 people. The number of women was 7,511. The share of youth is also noticeable: 23,973 convicted persons are classified as youth, of whom 2,431 are minors.
It was also reported that the number of convicted persons over the age of 60 was 2,830. Another important figure: 422 people were fully acquitted and rehabilitated.
As a result of applying reconciliation mechanisms, 13,224 people were released from criminal liability. The largest share of criminal cases was considered in Tashkent city, as well as in Fergana, Tashkent, Samarkand, and Namangan regions.
In short, the numbers are very “high”. What does this trend indicate — it once again reminds us that there is a need to strengthen prevention, legal culture, and public oversight. The phrase “let it not reach the court” turns out not to be just a saying.
