Rabbi killed in Sydney shooting

A mass shooting occurred at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, during the celebration of the Hanukkah holiday. The incident resulted in the deaths of 10 people, including Rabbi Eli Schlanger, a representative of the Chabad organization. This was reported by The Jerusalem Post.

During the shooting, members of the Zionist Federation of Australia were also injured. Local law enforcement authorities announced that they had detained two individuals shortly after the incident. A special operation is ongoing at the scene.

Police have strongly urged local residents and tourists to avoid the area, comply with all instructions, and not cross established boundaries. According to Jeremy Leibler, President of the Zionist Federation of Australia, the country's Jewish community is shocked by the incident.

He stated that approximately 2,000 people had gathered at Bondi Beach to celebrate Hanukkah together and to light the first candle. Representatives of Jewish organizations emphasized that they remain in constant contact with the government and are focused primarily on ensuring the safety of those affected, their families, and the community as a whole.

As a reminder, another representative of the Chabad organization, Rabbi Tzvi Kogan, was killed in November of last year. This crime was reported to have been committed by Uzbek citizens against Kogan, who resided in the United Arab Emirates.
