Turkmenistan citizens to post up to $15,000 bond for a US visa

Turkmenistan citizens must now post a bond of $5,000 to $15,000 when applying for a US visa. According to AP, Turkmenistan has been added to the list of countries subject to additional visa requirements, and the rule will take effect in 2026. Kursiv.uz reports. reports .
The new requirement is not limited to Turkmenistan: a similar bond will also be required from citizens of Bhutan, Botswana, the Central African Republic, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, and Namibia. Earlier, Mauritania, São Tomé and Príncipe, Tanzania, The Gambia, Malawi, and Zambia were also added to this list.
The bond does not guarantee a visa. However, if an application is denied or after entry is approved, the funds are expected to be returned to the applicant.
In addition, other tightened requirements will remain in place during the visa process: a mandatory in-person interview, submission of social media account history, and providing detailed travel information.
