New Year is one of the most eagerly awaited holidays in Uzbekistan. On this day, it has become a tradition to decorate the table lavishly for family members, relatives, and guests. Ahead of the New Year 2025, we analyzed how much it would cost to prepare a festive table for a family of four and an additional 6–8 guests.
A New Year feast is unimaginable without salads. One of the most popular salads is Olivier. Preparing approximately 3–3.5 kg of Olivier requires potatoes, carrots, 10–12 eggs, boiled sausage or chicken fillet, pickled cucumbers, green peas, and mayonnaise. Based on current market and supermarket prices, making this salad will cost between 135,000 and 150,000 soum.
Another traditional salad is herring under a fur coat. To prepare 2–2.5 kg of this dish, you will need herring, beets, potatoes, carrots, onions, and mayonnaise. The main expense is attributed to the fish, with the total cost ranging from 140,000 to 160,000 soum.
Despite the winter season, the New Year table usually features a fresh vegetable salad. This salad, made with tomatoes, cucumbers, a bunch of greens, and vegetable oil, costs between 90,000 and 110,000 soum. Thus, the total expense for salads adds up to 365,000–420,000 soum.
For the main course, most families prefer roasted chicken. Preparing 2 kg of chicken with lemon, spices, and vegetables costs around 180,000–200,000 soum. Another essential dish for the festive table is pilaf. Cooking pilaf requires 1.5 kg of rice, 700–800 grams of meat, carrots, onions, oil, and spices, costing approximately 240,000–250,000 soum.
Fish-based dishes also add a special flavor to the celebration. Carp or pike-perch baked with lemon and vegetables costs 290,000–320,000 soum for 2–2.5 kg of fish.
Fruits are an inseparable part of the New Year table. Purchasing mandarins, apples, bananas, kiwis, and pineapples costs an average of 265,000 soum. Light snacks such as cheese, walnuts, and pistachios are also popular: 0.5 kg of cheese costs 50,000 soum, walnuts 60,000 soum, and pistachios 100,000 soum. Bread and flatbread cost around 15,000–20,000 soum. In total, expenses for fruits and snacks reach 625,000 soum.
Beverages, including juices, carbonated drinks, and mineral water, require approximately 100,000 soum. Desserts, an integral part of the holiday, include 3 kg of candy (150,000 soum), 1.5 kg of pastries (120,000 soum), and wafers (30,000 soum). Cakes range between 220,000 and 280,000 soum. Overall, spending on desserts can amount to 300,000 soum.
In conclusion, to set a plentiful and festive New Year 2025 table, total expenses could range between 2.5–3 million soum. The holiday is approaching, and it's time to plan your budget.
