The draft State Program for 2025 includes a plan to restore the tram system in Tashkent. On March 12, an important step was taken in Tashkent with the participation of Laurent Saint-Martin, Minister-Delegate of France for Foreign Trade and Citizens Abroad, and Sharof Rakhmonov, Deputy Mayor of Tashkent. They signed a roadmap for the implementation of the tram system in Tashkent.
This news was announced at the signing ceremony of interdepartmental documents at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. According to information, by September 2025, a feasibility study (FIA) for the construction of a tram line in Tashkent is planned to be developed with the funds of international financial institutions.
The idea of restoring the tram system was first expressed in the “My Way” program in 2022. At that time, the head of state spoke about the need for trams and soon supported this proposal. This decision, in turn, is expected to serve to create a convenient transport infrastructure for the city’s residents and reduce traffic.
The relaunch of the tram system in Tashkent is not only a modernization of the city’s transport network, but also an important environmental one. Trams will help provide a large number of people with a convenient and environmentally friendly means of transport.
A convenient transport system is a big step towards improving the living standards of the people, strengthening intercity relations, and raising environmental awareness in society. In addition, trams can also have a positive impact on the aesthetic appearance of the city.
The tram system in Tashkent, of course, operated in a specific environment in the 60s and 70s of the last century. Its restoration, along with modern roadblocks, will be of great importance for improving the transportation system for the city's population.
