Information disseminated through authoritative European diplomatic sources has sparked great interest on the international political stage. According to The Telegraph, the Ukrainian government is considering a new and compromise path to end hostilities in the country.
According to the sources, it has become known that the Kyiv side is discussing options for reaching an agreement by effectively recognizing that part of the occupied territories — in Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions, as well as the Crimean Peninsula — will remain under Russia’s control.
Such a course is undoubtedly being assessed as a serious change in Ukraine’s political position. This is because, until now, President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly and firmly stated that there would be no retreat under any circumstances in matters related to territory or state borders.
At the same time, diplomatic circles note that this issue is acquiring special significance ahead of the planned face-to-face meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Alaska. There are many speculations about whether this meeting will take place and what topics will be discussed.
According to observers, if Kyiv officially considers this option, it may open a new stage not only in Ukrainian-Russian relations but also in the security architecture of the whole of Europe. At the same time, this step will undoubtedly cause sharp debates and disputes within Ukraine’s internal political environment.
