Divorced couple in China chooses unusual way to share chickens

In China’s Sichuan province, an incident during the divorce process of a farming couple became the subject of lively discussion among local residents and on social media.

According to reports, they had lived in a village for several years, engaged in animal husbandry, and kept 29 chickens, 22 geese, and two ducks in their household. When the family relationship broke down and they decided to officially divorce, they wanted to divide all their property, including the poultry, equally.

During the court proceedings, the judge offered two options:
The first — one of them buys the extra chicken, paying the other the corresponding amount,
The second — slaughter the chicken and eat it together.

After considering, the couple approved the second option, and on the spot, the extra chicken was slaughtered and equally shared at the table.

As reported by the local press and South China Morning Post, this case carries more meaning than just a simple household story from farmers’ lives — it shows that sometimes people defend their rights firmly even in the smallest matters.

Viewers and readers reacted differently to the incident: some found it amusing, while others appreciated the serious approach to property division during a divorce.
