According to various sources, nearly 90,000 Crimean Tatars live in Uzbekistan. This community is paying great attention to reviving its traditions in order to preserve its national identity.
In this process, the issue of choosing names for newborn babies plays a special role. This method helps to preserve the people's cultural code and unique characteristics.
Lenur Abdulganiev, the imam of the Jome Mosque in Chirchik, recently shared his views on this issue on the “Millat” TV channel. According to his observations, most Crimean Tatars in Uzbekistan consciously approach choosing names for their babies in accordance with national traditions.
According to the imam, this decision is not about following contemporary trends, but rather a carefully considered step towards preserving the ethno-cultural identity of the people. Abdulganiev emphasized that national names are one of the main elements that distinguish one people from another.
According to him, abandoning this tradition can lead to the loss of cultural values and the gradual replacement of national identity with other norms. Nevertheless, the imam admitted that some families prefer to give their children common European or other widely used international names.
However, in his opinion, such cases are not widespread. The majority of Crimean Tatars remain committed to national traditions, which reflects their desire to preserve their uniqueness and to pass on their cultural heritage to generations living far from their historical homeland.
