Uzbekistan's Minister of Energy, Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, announced during a meeting with deputies of the Legislative Chamber that Tashkent is holding negotiations with the United States regarding the assets of Russia’s "Lukoil" company in Uzbekistan. According to the minister, US officials have sent a formal letter extending the deadline for the sale of "Lukoil"'s foreign assets until mid-January of next year.
Additionally, Mirzamakhmudov expressed hope for finding a solution in this matter that aligns with international legal norms and serves the country's interests. The discussions are ongoing with legal experts and US officials.
As a reminder, the US imposed sanctions on "Lukoil" and its subsidiaries earlier this fall. The Russian company operates in several gas fields in Uzbekistan and has built and commissioned the Kandym Gas Processing Complex.
As of late July 2024, "Lukoil"’s investments in Uzbekistan’s economy exceeded $10 billion. Besides gas extraction, the company has also developed a network of fuel stations across the republic.
