It was reported that an investigation has been launched against the former head of the Penitentiary Department under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan, Rustam Rakhmonovich Tursunov, and he has been detained as a precautionary measure.
According to a Kun.uz source, Tursunov, like former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Bekmurod Abdullayev, was involved in the investigation within the same case. That is, the direction of the work is the same, and the possibility that the episodes may be interconnected is increasing.
At the same time, official bodies have not yet provided specific information on the content of the criminal case opened against these two former officials, the nature of the charges, or the articles. So, the main question in the public is still open: on what specific circumstances is the investigation being conducted?
Rustam Tursunov's career path was also extensive. From 2017 to 2018, he headed the Department of Internal Affairs of the Jizzakh region, and from 2018 - the head of the Department of Internal Affairs of the Navoi region. In February 2021, he began working as the Head of the Penitentiary Department.
Notably, in early November 2025, he was dismissed by presidential decree - it was said that Bekmurod Abdullayev was also dismissed on the same day. Now it is reported that both of them are under investigation in the same case.
In the current situation, the most correct approach is to wait for an official explanation and the results of the investigation. Because without clear accusations and evidence, any assumptions will only escalate the situation. But one thing is clear: work with personnel at such a level always causes a great resonance in society, therefore, the demand for an official statement will be the higher.
