Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a resolution on the socio-economic development of Samarkand region for 2026. According to the document, to improve drinking water supply across 14 districts, 90 facilities will be built and repaired, and 242 km of water pipelines will be constructed and upgraded.
The plan also covers other infrastructure areas: more than 290 km of roads will be built and reconstructed, and 15 overpasses will be constructed. To strengthen power supply, 70 transformer substations will be installed and 137 km of power lines will be upgraded.
Construction and repair works in the region are expected to be carried out based on “green” approaches and minimum energy-efficiency requirements.
In addition, starting from July next year, the region’s water supply enterprises will be able to use funds generated from taxes collected for water use.
From the same period, subsidies will be introduced in Samarkand region for installing drip irrigation systems: a payment of 12 million soums per hectare has been set.
