On New Year's Eve, New York City police launched a mocking search for the famous movie character Grinch, known for stealing Christmas holidays. The New York Police Department promised a reward of 10 thousand US dollars for information that would help "capture" this hero.
The announcement was circulated on the police's official social media pages. Representatives of the NYPD emphasized that this message is not related to a real criminal case, but rather was published to share a festive mood, to further strengthen communication with the public through humor.
A humorous "search" announcement stated that around midnight on December 24th, Greench had "stolen" toys and gifts from children who behaved well this year, placed under a Christmas tree. Apparently, this "crime" was also recorded by security cameras. The advertisement specifically described Greench's green appearance, hairy clothing, and "suspicious behavior," approaching this situation with humor.
It's worth noting that New York police have previously attracted public attention with such creative and humorous performances on social media on the eve of holidays. For example, in previous years, police posted posts urging Santa Claus to follow traffic rules and "warning" New Year's elves not to disturb public order.
The character of Grinch was created by the famous American children's writer Dr. Seuss (Theodor Suz Geisel). It was first published in 1957 in How the Grinch Stole Christmas! He became known to readers through the book "Grinch - Christmas Thief."
An animated film based on this work was made in 1966, and in 2000, a feature film starring famous actor Jim Carrey was released. Although the story begins with a character who hates Christmas and is far from the joy of the holiday, at the end of the story, Greench realizes the true essence of kindness, generosity, and the holiday.
