Uzbekistan's Ambassador Alisher Qayumov presented his credentials to Australia’s Governor-General Samantha Mostyn. This was reported by the “Dunyo” news agency.
During the meeting, Mostyn acknowledged the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan. Additionally, the prospects for collaboration between Tashkent and Canberra were discussed.
According to Qayumov and Mostyn, both countries heavily rely on the cotton and mining industries. Mostyn praised the successful hosting of the UNESCO conference in Samarkand, highlighting that Uzbekistan is becoming an attractive destination for Australian tourists.
Diplomatic relations between Tashkent and Canberra were established in late December 1991 when the foreign ministers of Uzbekistan and Australia exchanged letters. It is noteworthy that Qayumov has been heading Uzbekistan’s embassy in Singapore since this spring.
He presented his credentials to the president of that country in April.
