
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed several initiatives to enhance cooperation between Central Asia and Japan. His proposals focused on developing a strategy through 2040 and organizing regular meetings among regional leaders.
On December 20, during the first summit of the “Central Asia + Japan” dialogue held in Tokyo, Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed holding such meetings at the level of heads of state every two years. He also expressed Uzbekistan's readiness to host one of the upcoming meetings.
The President additionally proposed the development of a “Central Asia-Japan 2040” strategy. This document should define long-term cooperation directions and include specific projects in economic and sustainable development sectors.
In terms of economic initiatives, Mirziyoyev suggested establishing an investment fund aimed at developing regional infrastructure and industry. He also proposed creating a network of Japanese technology parks to facilitate industrial cooperation and technology transfer.
The President placed particular emphasis on the digital agenda. He suggested establishing a “Central Asia-Japan Digital Hub” to integrate projects in artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and cybersecurity.
Furthermore, Mirziyoyev called for the development of cooperation in the fields of “green” energy, ecology, and transport, as well as strengthening collaboration on seismic safety. In the humanitarian sphere, he stressed the importance of expanding cooperation in education and launching youth programs.
At the conclusion of the summit, participants adopted the Tokyo Declaration.
