The leader, who announced an increase in gasoline prices, resigned

Gerhard Hillebrand, president of transport affairs at ADAC, one of Germany's largest car clubs, has resigned. This occurred following a public outcry following his interview with the newspaper Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung, reports Bild.
In an interview, Hillebrand emphasized the need to increase gasoline prices to encourage the transition to environmentally friendly transport. In his opinion, it is necessary to take strict measures so that people switch from diesel and gasoline cars to electric ones.
His proposal caused sharp objections among club members. According to official data, about 60,000 members have left ADAC in the last four weeks. This situation is being assessed as a rare-scale protest in the history of ADAC.
The club's management officially stated that Hillebrand's views do not reflect the organization's viewpoint. They emphasize that ADAC remains a supporter of affordable transport for all and opposes any additional financial burdens that violate social justice.
ADAC also acknowledged that Hillebrand's speech was perceived by many as a "refusal to protect the interests of car owners," and promised to draw appropriate conclusions on this matter.
For reference, ADAC is a major car club in Germany with nearly 22 million members.
