President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, in his address to the parliament and the people, announced that Uzbekistan’s anti-corruption efforts will move to a new phase. According to the head of state, from 2026, this process will not be carried out through regular measures but under an “emergency mode.”
The president characterized corruption as a serious threat to the nation’s development, highlighting that it undermines principles of justice, damages the rule of law, and, most critically, weakens public trust. He emphasized that there is no room for compromise in the fight against corruption.
Strict Monitoring in State Institutions
In the address, it was noted that special anti-corruption representatives and internal control units will be established in all government institutions. Additionally, permanent representatives of the Accounts Chamber will be involved in the operations of these organizations. Their primary tasks will include early identification of corruption risks and preventing the illegal use of budget funds.
Notably, these oversight structures will report directly to the president, thereby increasing the level of accountability.
— “If anyone thinks, ‘I have a position, I have a title, no one can touch me,’ they are gravely mistaken. Everyone is equal before the law,” the president stated in a firm warning.
Which Sectors Will Be Under Full Control
According to the president, law enforcement, tax and customs services, the financial sector, banks, major state companies, ministries, and local government bodies will be placed under special scrutiny. Ensuring transparency in these areas and eliminating all factors contributing to corruption are identified as priority tasks.
Furthermore, individuals obstructing the activities of compliance services were warned that they would be regarded as accomplices to corruption and held accountable under the law.
Conclusion
In summary, starting from 2026, the fight against corruption will not remain at the level of declarations. The state is introducing strict discipline, rigorous control, and the principle of personal accountability across all sectors. This signifies one clear message: neither position nor title stands above the law.
