Uzbekistan’s external debt reaches $75.4 billion

According to the Central Bank’s report, by the end of the third quarter Uzbekistan’s total external debt amounted to $75.4 billion. In January–September, the country’s liabilities to foreign creditors increased by more than $11 billion. This was reported by kursiv.uz. reports .
Over the same period, the current account deficit stood at $207.3 million. This is significantly lower than last year’s level of $3.1 billion.
The narrowing of the deficit was attributed to a 32.8% rise in exports to $26.1 billion. Key factors included higher commodity prices and an expansion in services provided to non-residents.
Imports increased by 15.4% to $36.7 billion. Growth was driven by demand for machinery and equipment, as well as food products.
Foreign direct investment rose 1.7 times to $2.9 billion. Portfolio investment, mainly due to the issuance of international bonds, increased 2.2 times to $3.8 billion.
