Syria Joins US-Led Coalition

The current Syrian government has joined the international coalition fighting against the Islamic State. This was reported by RBC, citing Syrian media.

Additionally, the U.S. State Department has suspended sanctions imposed on this Middle Eastern country for a period of 180 days. According to Bloomberg, this decision by Washington aims to strengthen cooperation with the new government in Damascus.

Meanwhile, Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara is seeking international aid to rebuild the country, which has been devastated by civil war. According to Tom Barrack, the U.S. Special Representative for Syria, the United States sees supporting the Syrian government as necessary to reduce Iran's influence and prevent the resurgence of the Islamic State.

Earlier, the Syrian Ministry of Internal Affairs announced that operations had been conducted in several provinces against terrorist groups linked to the Islamic State.
