U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Republican Party representatives are working on legislation aimed at imposing sanctions on Russia's trade partners. “I’ve been informed about this, and I’m satisfied with the progress on it.
The Republicans are proposing a very strong legislative draft,” stated the White House leader. According to Trump, it is also planned to include Iran in this legislation.
This initiative to impose 500% tariffs on Russia's trade partners was first proposed in the spring by Senators Lindsey Graham and Richard Blumenthal. During the summer, Graham indicated that the U.S. president supported these tariffs.
However, Trump later emphasized the insignificance of the 500% tariffs, suggesting that a 100% tariff rate would suffice. Russia remains one of Uzbekistan's key trading partners.
In the first nine months of 2025, the trade volume between the two countries exceeded $9.4 billion, compared to $8.6 billion during the same period last year. From January to September of this year, the trade turnover between Uzbekistan and the U.S. amounted to $719.1 million, up from $681 million in the previous year.
Meanwhile, trade volumes with Iran during the same period reached $393.3 million and $359.1 million, respectively. Read “Zamin” on Telegram!
