Over 300 Students and Teachers Kidnapped in Nigeria

Armed individuals attacked a boarding school in Niger State, located in northwestern Nigeria, and kidnapped more than 300 students and 12 teachers. This was reported by the Associated Press, citing information from the Christian Association of Nigeria.

The incident reportedly took place on Friday. According to the organization, the armed attackers stormed the school and forcibly took the students and teachers away.

Although details of the attack remain undisclosed, it is reported that a total of 303 children and 12 school staff members are missing. Following the incident, the authorities of Niger State decided to temporarily close all schools as a security precaution.

According to the governor, security forces are actively working to rescue the hostages. This event is being described as the largest kidnapping in Nigeria since the April 14, 2014 abduction of 276 to 300 schoolgirls in Chibok by Boko Haram militants.

Regional authorities acknowledge that controlling the situation is becoming increasingly challenging due to the activities of armed groups in rural areas. The incident occurred at a time when U.S.-Nigeria relations were already strained, following a statement by Donald Trump concerning the genocide of Christians in Nigeria.
