
In Turkey, 127 people suspected of planning possible terrorist attacks ahead of the New Year holiday were detained. According to TRT Haber, law enforcement believes they are linked to the Islamic State (IS) group. This was reported by kursiv.uz.reports.
Special raids were carried out in Istanbul and Ankara: 110 people were detained in Istanbul and 17 in Ankara.
According to the prosecutor’s office, at least 40 of those detained were connected to an underground group linked to an attack on police officers in the city of Yalova a day earlier. Local media reported that firearms were used during attempts to detain the suspects, resulting in the deaths of three police officers.
Officials said that after the incident in Yalova, large-scale checks were launched in Istanbul and Ankara, and the operation was aimed at ensuring security during the holidays and preventing potential attacks.
