Peskov: Speaking openly about Putin’s residence is banned

Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that, following statements about a possible attack on Vladimir Putin’s residence in Valdai, the head of state’s exact whereabouts will no longer be discussed in public. He stressed that under the current circumstances, officials will refrain from openly disclosing information about where the president is.

Peskov also noted that evidence regarding the alleged attack involving Ukrainian drones will not be made public. He described the incident as a “terrorist act” aimed at undermining peace talks and said Russia intends to take a tougher stance in negotiations on Ukraine.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that on the night of December 29 Ukraine allegedly attempted to attack a presidential residence in Russia’s Novgorod region with 91 drones, all of which were destroyed by air defenses. However, this claim did not match Russia’s Defense Ministry data stating that 18 drones were shot down over the region that night.

It was also reported that Vladimir Putin mentioned the incident during a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump, saying Russia’s approach to Ukraine could be revised. Trump later described it as a “very bad situation.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky firmly denied the accusations, calling the attack reports “Russia’s next lie.” In his view, Moscow may be trying to create a pretext for possible strikes on government buildings in Kyiv and derail peace talks.

Overall, the situation around the residence is intensifying the information confrontation in the Russia–Ukraine war and raising new questions internationally.
