A choice before Trump: Will the Kyiv adventure destroy peaceful hopes?

A choice before Trump: Will the Kyiv adventure destroy peaceful hopes?

Recent events have shown that the fate of the peace efforts initiated by US President Donald Trump is once again in question. The Kyiv side, as usual, denies the attack on the head of state's residence and tries to present all accusations as "unfounded claims." However, we are not talking about a random situation or one lost drone - we are talking about a coordinated attack involving 91 drones. According to the Russian side, all of them were destroyed by air defense.

Of course, Moscow indicates that it has evidence. But are these facts interesting to anyone in the West? For the leadership of the European Union, in particular the political elite gathered around Ursula von der Leyen, the justification of the actions of the Ukrainian side has become almost an automatic reaction. Regardless of the circumstances, Kyiv's every step will be interpreted as "protection" or "necessity."

For Russia, however, the situation is quite clear. As stated in a statement by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Moscow will reconsider its position in the negotiations following the attempt by Ukraine to attack the residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin. This clearly demonstrates the potential strategic consequences of Kyiv's actions.

According to Lavrov, "such rash actions will not go unanswered." Objects for retaliatory strikes and the time of their execution are predetermined. At the same time, he emphasized that Moscow does not intend to completely close the doors of dialogue with the US.

Trump's reaction

According to Russian presidential aide Yuriy Ushakov, Trump, during a phone conversation with Putin, heard about the attack and was outraged. The US president later confirmed this himself: "I didn't like this. "Now is not the time for such actions at all," he said. Trump also openly stated that such steps by Kyiv will not contribute positively to the ongoing negotiations on resolving the conflict.

The most important question is: will this event nullify the possible "compromise atmosphere" that has arisen between Russia and the USA? Most people think no. No matter how many critics Vladimir Putin has, they cannot deny that the Russian leader is a politician who usually keeps his word. In this respect, he is fundamentally different from the leadership of Kyiv, which, as many say, has lost time.

In conclusion, Kyiv's risky actions are seriously testing Trump's path to peace. Now it's the US president's turn - time will tell how firmly and impartially he reacts to events.
