Former head of Karakalpakstan Kallibek Kamolov has died

The former First Secretary of the Karakalpak Regional Committee of the Communist Party of the Uzbek SSR, Kallibek Kamolov, has passed away.
According to information, Kallibek Kamolov was born on March 18, 1926. He graduated from the Karakalpakstan Teachers' Institute in 1947. Before graduating from the university, he worked as a teacher, and then began working in the Komsomol system.
During his career, he held the positions of Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Karakalpak ASSR, Chairman of the Nukus City Executive Committee, Minister of Municipal Services, as well as Minister of Automobile Transport and Highways of the republic.
Also, from 1958 to 1959, he was the secretary of the Karakalpak Regional Committee of the Communist Party of Uzbekistan, from 1959 to 1963 - the chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Karakalpak ASSR, and from 1963 to 1984 - the first secretary of the Karakalpak Regional Committee of the Communist Party of Uzbekistan.
Between 1984 and 1986, he served as Consul General of the Soviet Union in Constanța, Romania.
It is noted that Kallibek Kamolov was arrested in 1987 as part of the "cotton case." At the end of 1989, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison and deprived of the title of Hero of Socialist Labor and a number of state awards. Later, like other defendants in this case, he was pardoned.
