The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, who is being held in custody in the United States, addressed his supporters via social media for the first time after a long break. He emphasized that his physical and mental condition remains stable and expressed gratitude to those who support him.
In a statement published on behalf of the politician and his wife, Cilia Flores, it was specifically noted that the letters, prayers, and warm words they receive are giving them spiritual strength. “We have received all your messages. Every kind word gives us new strength. We are in good condition, we are determined, calm, and constantly in prayer,” the message said.
In his address, Maduro stressed the importance of peace, national unity, and constructive dialogue, noting that Venezuelan society should develop on the basis of reconciliation and mutual respect. He also expressed sincere gratitude not only to the people of his country but also to individuals around the world for their support. According to him, this support gives him spiritual strength and inner resilience.
It should be recalled that on January 3, U.S. military forces carried out a special operation in Caracas, during which Maduro and his wife were detained and taken to New York. The head of the White House, Donald Trump, stated that they would be brought to trial on charges related to “narco-terrorism.” However, Maduro and his spouse completely deny these accusations.
According to the latest information, a second court hearing in this case has already taken place. Observers note that there have been noticeable changes in Maduro’s appearance — he has lost significant weight. He was brought into the courtroom wearing prison clothes, without handcuffs but in shackles.
The president’s defense, in turn, demanded that the case be closed, arguing that U.S. sanctions are preventing the payment of legal fees from Venezuela’s state budget. However, the court did not support this argument and rejected the motion.
These events remain at the center of attention not only in Venezuela but also for the global community. How further developments will affect international political relations and the geopolitical balance remains an open question.
