Why do Uzbeks not work according to their diploma? Reasons identified
A recent study by the online platform HeadHunter Uzbekistan has once again revealed a serious gap between education and the labor market in the country. According to the study, most job seekers do not work in their field of specialization and note that the education sector does not meet the needs of the labor market.

Diploma exists, but there is no job or it is in another field

According to the survey results, only 33% of participants, that is, one in three, work in the field indicated on their diploma. The rest have completely changed their field or use their diploma knowledge only partially. This shows that there is a disconnect between the education system and the labor market.

High desire to choose a new specialty

78% of survey participants said they would have chosen another specialty if they had the opportunity. This may indicate a societal need for change and a problem with employment in the current specialties.

Experience is the main factor

The majority of job seekers (with only 27% as an exception) do not consider a diploma the main factor for career success. They place greater emphasis on practical experience, adaptability, and modern skills.

Online education is supported but still lacks trust

74% of respondents approved online education, but only a third see it as a full alternative to traditional university education. This shows that trust in digital education models is still not fully formed.

The number of those ready to change jobs is growing

A previous HeadHunter study showed that trust in employers has decreased. In 2025, 41% of the population plan to change jobs. The main reasons are low wages (75%), lack of career growth opportunities (43%), and difficult working conditions (37%).

Conclusion: The education system needs reforms

The research results once again confirm the necessity of establishing a close connection between education and the labor market in Uzbekistan. For employers, not only a diploma, but also modern skills, initiative, and adaptability are becoming important. This means that educational strategies need to be revised and brought closer to practice.
