The first winners of the Beruniy Award have been announced


On November 6, in Samarkand, the first laureates of the UNESCO-Uzbekistan International Prize named after Beruni for research in the field of artificial intelligence ethics were announced. This prize was established in 2023 at the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, with the main goal of supporting scientists developing artificial intelligence taking into account ethics, human rights, and the interests of society.

The first laureates of the prize were Brazilian professor Virgilio Augusto Fernandes de Almeida, French professors Susan Perry and Claudia Roda, as well as Tsinghua University scientists Lan Xue, Zhen Liang, and Qian Xiao from China. The award ceremony was held within the framework of UNESCO's 43rd General Conference.

On the occasion of the event, a special edition of The UNESCO Courier magazine was published in English and Uzbek. This edition is dedicated to the scientific legacy of the great scholar Abu Rayhan Beruni and will be added to UNESCO's digital library.
