Green Card visas for Uzbeks temporarily suspended: reason revealed

The U.S. Embassy in Uzbekistan announced that starting December 30, the issuance of immigrant visas under the Diversity Visa (DV) program has been temporarily suspended. According to official information, the decision was made by the U.S. Department of State.

The embassy’s notice states that, effective immediately, the processing of all types of visas under the DV program is being halted. However, program participants retain the right to submit applications and attend scheduled interviews. The U.S. Department of State will continue to schedule interview dates, but visas will not be issued based on interview outcomes.

It is reported that previously scheduled DV interview dates will not be canceled or moved to other dates. The embassy emphasized that it will keep applicants informed about the situation and will promptly notify the public if additional decisions are made.

As a reminder, earlier reports said that U.S. President Donald Trump had signed an order to temporarily suspend the Green Card lottery program.

For reference, the Green Card program has been in effect since 1990 and each year randomly grants 50,000 foreign nationals the right to live permanently in the United States. According to results announced in May 2025, Uzbekistan ranked first worldwide with 5,564 winners. Algeria and Russia followed in the next positions.

So far, no specific information has been provided on when DV visa issuance will resume; developments are being closely monitored.
