Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Health announced that ahead of the New Year holidays it will switch the entire healthcare system to a special operating mode. From the morning of December 31 through the end of January 4, state hospitals of all levels nationwide—from district polyclinics to republican research and practical centers—will receive patients without interruption. This was reported by upl.uzreports.
To maintain this regime, nearly 20,000 medical workers have been mobilized. The goal is to keep duty shifts running steadily and prevent service disruptions. Ambulance services will also operate at full capacity: more than 2.8 thousand mobile teams are planned to be deployed across regions. The Republican Scientific Center of Emergency Medical Care and its branches will remain on 24/7 standby for emergencies.
Specialized institutions have also introduced separate safety and continuity protocols. In particular, 231 maternity hospitals and 233 pediatric inpatient facilities will not stop working during the holidays—obstetric and pediatric care will continue as usual. During mass festivities, medical institutions will work closely with law enforcement officers responsible for public safety. The ministry urged citizens to pay attention to their health during the holidays and follow doctors’ recommendations.
In Uzbekistan, the first day of the new year traditionally sees a high number of births: for example, on January 1, 2024, more than 1,800 babies were born in the country. Therefore, maternity hospitals concentrate resources to the maximum specifically on the holiday night.
