Uzbekistan national football team head coach Fabio Cannavaro will participate in the Winter Olympic torch relay in Naples, Italy, on December 24. This was reported by NBC News. Former renowned footballer Ciro Ferrara is also expected to take part in the ceremony alongside Cannavaro.
According to sources, both athletes were born in Naples, giving the relay special symbolic significance for them. Following the torch relay ceremony, the relay will be temporarily paused in observance of the Catholic Christmas holiday.
Interestingly, a day earlier, famous actor Jackie Chan also participated in the ceremony. He is known as one of the experienced participants, having carried the torch at previous Summer and Winter Olympic Games.
The Olympic torch relay began on December 6 in Rome and will conclude with the opening ceremony at San Siro Stadium in Milan on February 6. The torch will travel across various regions of Italy, including Sicily and Sardinia islands.
The 25th Winter Olympic Games will take place from February 6 to 22 in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo. Around 3,500 athletes from more than 90 countries are expected to compete. According to the International Olympic Committee, this year’s program will feature ski mountaineering for the first time, with medals contested in men’s, women’s, and mixed team events.
In summary, the Winter Olympics in Italy will undoubtedly attract fans not only with sports but also with cultural and historical significance.
