Apple is reportedly planning to produce a low-cost Mac laptop for the first time, according to Bloomberg, which cites its own sources. The device is expected to cost less than $1,000, making it the most affordable computer in the brand’s history.
According to the agency, the new Mac will be equipped with an iPhone processor and a budget LCD display. It is designed for students, entrepreneurs, and users seeking an affordable device for office work, internet browsing, and text editing.
The project, codenamed J700, is currently being tested internally at the company and is at an initial stage of production with foreign suppliers. The official presentation is expected to take place in the first half of 2026.
With this move, Apple is changing its traditional direction as a company that exclusively produces premium devices, and is now entering competition with inexpensive Chromebooks and basic Windows laptops. To lower the device’s price, Apple plans to use relatively simple components.
The device’s screen will be under 13.6 inches, making it the most compact display among Mac laptops. According to Bloomberg’s sources, the iPhone processor even outperforms the older M1 chip.
Currently, the company’s most affordable laptop is the MacBook Air with an M4 processor, priced at $999. Read “Zamin” on Telegram!
