A significant law aimed at ensuring environmental sustainability and creating a healthy environment for future generations has been adopted in Uzbekistan, reports parliament.uz. The new law “On Limiting Greenhouse Gas Emissions” establishes strict procedures for reducing harmful substances released into the country’s atmosphere.
According to the law, state accounting of greenhouse gas emissions, setting clear target indicators, as well as measures for financing and supporting activities in this field are envisaged. In addition, the law grants legal entities, individuals, and sole proprietors the right to implement "green" projects.
Under the new regulation, greenhouse gases reduced as a result of "green" projects implemented on the territory of Uzbekistan are fully transferred to state control, and this information is recorded in a special carbon units register. Furthermore, the law requires that carbon units indicated in reports for each "green" project undergo special verification.
Ecologists and specialists assess this initiative as an important step in fulfilling Uzbekistan’s international commitments. The “green” projects in the country are also expected to become one of the active means in the fight against global climate change in the future.
