At the “Malika” shopping center in Tashkent, the price for registering "grey" IMEI codes has increased from $30 to up to $250, Kursiv reported.
According to members of the Facebook group “Potrebityel.uz,” some vendors are now charging as much as $400 for IMEI registration services. While the IMEI system itself works, users say the process is overly complicated and needs simplification.
As explained at the IMEI registration office, a customs declaration is required. However, few passengers are aware of this due to a lack of announcements at airports.
One user said trying to obtain the declaration through the Customs Committee was difficult, expensive, and time-consuming. Once the document was acquired, however, the actual registration took only a few minutes.
Community members urged others to check the IMEI code before purchasing phones.
As a reminder, starting from 2025, all imported phones must be declared with customs. Otherwise, a 30% duty will apply, and registration with UzIMEI will be denied. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
