7 tons of plov cooked in a giant cauldron in Samarkand!
Another record-scale event took place in Samarkand — more than 7 tons of plov were cooked in a huge cauldron in the city center. This dish, a symbol of national pride, attracted attention not only from Uzbekistan but also from guests around the world.

The giant plov was cooked in a specially prepared cauldron measuring 4.5 meters in length and 2 meters in height. The following amounts of ingredients were used:

  • 1700 kg of rice,

  • 1900 kg of yellow carrots,

  • 480 kg of red carrots,

  • 830 kg of lamb,

  • 830 kg of beef,

  • 130 kg of lamb fat (kurdyuk),

  • 350 liters of vegetable oil,

  • 200 kg of onions,

  • 100 kg of chickpeas,

  • 170 kg of raisins,

  • 5 kg of cumin,

  • 3 kg of black pepper,

  • 17 kg of cornelian cherry (dogwood),

  • 50 kg of salt,

  • 450 liters of water.

A total of 55 chefs participated in preparing this dish — 50 from Uzbekistan and 5 from abroad. For 5 hours, they worked together to bring out the full flavor and richness of our national dish.

Once the plov was ready, 10 skilled chefs spent 2.5 hours serving it to the guests.

Events like this not only promote our traditional cuisine but also contribute greatly to the development of tourism and culinary heritage. It is delightful that Samarkand is becoming known to the world not only for its historical monuments but also for its gastronomic marvels.
