The European Parliament is looking for ways to save Ukraine from winter

At a meeting of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, attacks on Ukraine's energy system and the humanitarian crisis were discussed in detail. According to EU representatives, Moscow is trying to break the will of the Ukrainian people by using cold and darkness as a weapon.

"Winter - Russia's Main Weapon"

European Commissioner Marta Kos emphasized that the strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure are not just military actions, but a systemic crime aimed at creating unbearable conditions for the population. "The world sees the Kremlin's strategy of surrendering Ukraine through freezing," Ms. Kos said. He emphasized that such actions will not go unpunished and that work is underway on the 20th package of sanctions against Russia.

Funds and equipment flow

The European Union promises not to leave Ukraine alone. According to the information provided:

  • Since 2022, €1.3 billion in humanitarian aid has been provided.
  • The first 145 million euros will be allocated for 2026.
  • To date, more than 11 thousand generators and 7 thousand transformers have been delivered to Ukraine.

However, according to the deputies, it is impossible to maintain peace only with generators. "First of all, we must protect the Ukrainian sky," the European Commissioner added.

"Cholodomor": Death from the Cold

German deputy Tobias Kremer, who recently returned from Kyiv, did not hide his admiration for the resilience of the local population. According to him, even -27 degrees of frost and lack of water could not bring the Ukrainians to their knees. Lithuanian deputy Pyatras Aushtryavičius, however, assessed every missile hit as Europe's unfulfilled promises and demanded that Russia's actions be reviewed by a special tribunal.

The scale of economic damage is astonishing

During the debates, the World Bank's latest estimates were presented: the damage to Ukraine's energy sector has exceeded $68 billion. Deputy Lyuda Majilis said that every euro allocated by Europe is too little compared to the wealth that the Kremlin is destroying. He warned that if more funds are not allocated now, the cost of this will be paid in the future with human lives.

Political conflicts

Although the majority supported Ukraine, representatives of the right-wing forces accused the EU of not striving to stop the war. However, these opinions were met with sharp disapproval. Green representative Damian Bezelager reminded colleagues of the concept of "cholodomor" (death from cold), calling it the largest war crime occurring in 2026.

In your opinion, is Europe's aid to Ukraine sufficient to avoid losses this winter?
