The rules for using cars older than 50 years have been clarified

In Uzbekistan, reports circulated that from February 1 it was prohibited to use vehicles that are more than 50 years old and to re-register them. The Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Public Security Department clarified the matter, stating that vehicles recognized as antique are excluded from this procedure.
Which cars are considered antique?
According to the Cabinet of Ministers’ resolution “On additional measures to digitalize the field of ensuring road traffic safety,” vehicles that are 50 years old or more and have preserved their original condition — namely their exterior appearance, structure, and main units — are considered antique. For such vehicles, special state registration plates of the newly introduced ANT series are issued.
The press service of the MIA Public Security Department explained that, to obtain state registration plates for such vehicles, citizens must apply from February 1 of this year to the registration and exam units of the territorial road traffic safety departments.
Which plates are issued for antique vehicles?
According to the government resolution:
— For antique vehicles owned by legal entities: ANT series state registration plates of types I, IA or IE, IAE;
— For antique vehicles owned by individuals: ANT series state registration plates of types III, IIIA or IIIE, IIIAE;
— For non-route taxis owned by legal entities: TTT series state registration plates of types I, IA or IE, IAE.
In short, not every vehicle older than 50 years means a “ban” — if the car has preserved its original condition, it can be registered as an antique and receive a plate of a separate series.
