A Unified Center for Radioactive Waste will be launched in the republic

In accordance with Resolution No. 47 of the Government of Uzbekistan dated February 9, 2026, a specialized center for the storage of radioactive waste will be created in the country. This center will be built on the basis of a waste disposal point operating under the Institute of Nuclear Physics.
The newly created Republican Center for the Storage of Radioactive Waste will be the only state institution on the territory of the republic that carries out the collection, transportation by special transport, processing, sorting, and long-term safe storage of radioactive waste.
Among the main tasks of the center are the processing of radioactive sources that have expired or are out of use, the development of methods for handling waste based on innovative technologies, and conducting scientific research in this area. In this regard, the use of digitalization and information technologies, as well as the exchange of information between government agencies, will be established.
This decision will be one of the important steps towards ensuring environmental safety in the country, responsible handling of industrial waste, and the formation of a system that meets international safety standards.
