Uzbekistan moves toward WTO: 29 new documents to be adopted in 2026 for accession

Uzbekistan plans to accelerate its accession process to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2026 by drafting and adopting 29 regulatory legal acts. This was reported by the President’s representative on WTO matters, Azizbek Urunov. Kursiv.uz reports.reports.

According to him, the republic has already concluded bilateral market-access negotiations with 33 of the 34 WTO member states. Only the agreement with Taiwan remains unresolved for now.

According to available data, in 2025 Uzbekistan has already adopted 30 regulatory legal acts. These include laws, presidential decrees, government resolutions, as well as departmental documents.

The 29 new documents planned for 2026 will cover the main areas of trade regulation. In particular, rules on customs and technical standards, export duties, trade defense measures, intellectual property, as well as sanitary and phytosanitary requirements are envisaged.

Officials aim in 2026 to finalize the remaining bilateral and multilateral negotiations, prepare the final report of the WTO working party, and fully align national legislation with the agreements reached.
