In New York, unknown individuals hijacked a subway train for fun. This was reported by CBS News, citing city police.
The incident occurred on the evening of January 25. A group of teenage boys boarded a train at a stop near the Forest Hills-71st Avenue station in Brooklyn. The criminals entered the driver's cabin and independently turned on the train controls.
They did not limit themselves to wandering around the subway, but also damaged the surveillance cameras inside the cars. After the trip, the teenagers left the train and disappeared in an unknown direction.
According to the New York Police Department, the R train was left on a reserve track in Queens. The reserve track is used to store trains when they are not in use.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTBA) said that the R 9108 train was left unattended by the department's employees. When the employees returned, they found that the train had been moved from its original location.
The report notes that the train's doors were locked, indicating that someone had entered the train using transit keys.
They likely had information about where the train was, how to operate it and how to get the keys, said transportation expert Robert Paswell.
It is not known how long the men drove the train and how far they drove it. In the videos that were distributed on social networks, the train can be seen moving at high speed. According to officials, the offenders in black clothes painted the camera lenses inside the train with a black marker.
The MTA sent the train to the Queens railway station to analyze the data from the black box and determine where and how long it was there.
Currently, law enforcement agencies are working to identify the suspects. New Yorkers hope that the guilty will be identified and brought to justice.
According to officials, this is not the first time that such incidents have occurred.
In particular, in September 2024, two minors - a 17-year-old girl and a young man - hijacked a subway train and caused a collision with another train. Although the incident was serious, there were no injuries. The teenagers who fled the scene were detained.
A similar incident occurred in January of the same year, when a group of individuals temporarily took control of a subway train.
In all of the above cases, the perpetrators' goals were similar: the actions were carried out solely for fun, without taking into account potential dangers. Follow “Zamin” news on “Telegram”
