Has North Korea supplied Russia with 12 million shells?
According to South Korea’s Yonhap news agency, during the war in Ukraine, North Korea has sent Russia a large quantity of weapons and artillery shells. This was stated in a report by the country’s Military Intelligence Service (DIA).

According to official data, North Korea has delivered artillery munitions to Russia in a total of 28,000 containers. If this volume is evaluated based on 152mm caliber shells, the number of delivered munitions exceeds 12 million, the report says.

According to the head of Ukrainian military intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, currently, almost half of the large-caliber shells used by the Russian army are of North Korean origin. The Russian government has never officially confirmed purchasing ammunition from North Korea, but the complaints about “shell shortages” at the beginning of the war are no longer heard.

For reference, in 2024, Moscow and Pyongyang signed a military cooperation agreement. In addition, according to South Korean and Ukrainian intelligence services, Pyongyang is planning to send between 25,000 and 30,000 military personnel to support Russia’s operations in Ukraine in the coming months. This could further expand the international scope of the war.
