Boas and cobras released into nature in Surkhandarya region
The Central Asian cobra and Eastern boa are listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan and in Appendix II of CITES as species close to vulnerable status with a fragmented, mosaic distribution.

According to the Red Book data, the Central Asian cobra has completely disappeared from some habitats, and in the remaining areas it is very rare. As for the Eastern boa, there is no exact data on its population.

These snakes were confiscated from citizens during raids conducted by inspectors of the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change, as they were being kept illegally, and were temporarily handed over to the Tashkent Zoo for safekeeping.

Now, based on a scientific conclusion from the Institute of Zoology of the Academy of Sciences, they have been released into the wild in the "Surkhan" state reserve, in the Kampyrtepa, Sherjon, and Sholkon zones.
