What it's really like to work at OpenAI: insider speaks out
A former OpenAI engineer has spoken openly about what it’s really like to work at the company, reported TechCrunch.

Jan Leike, who worked at OpenAI from 2021 to 2023, shared insights from his time there. According to him, the work environment is intense, demanding high discipline and productivity. He expressed concern about how decisions regarding AI safety were made within the company.

Leike noted that while OpenAI is full of smart and hardworking people, the decision-making processes can lack transparency. He believes the company is not being open or responsible enough when it comes to AI safety, and warned that this could lead to significant risks in the future.

Still, he did not entirely criticize OpenAI — he praised many of the people and some internal processes. But in his view, the high-pressure environment and lack of prioritization on safety are real issues.
