According to a new study conducted by scientists from the University of Sydney, even just three minutes of moderate physical activity a day can significantly reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and death in older people.
Experts note that many previous studies have shown that people can improve their health even without engaging in special exercises. Even simple daily activities such as doing housework, going to the store or working in the garden are of great importance. Scientists call such simple and unprepared actions "casual physical activity".
As part of the new study, scientists from the University of Sydney studied the lifestyles of more than 24,000 people with an average age of 62. The data was obtained from the British Biobank, a large international repository of human biological samples and data.
The participants initially considered themselves to be inactive. However, to determine their actual physical activity, each participant wore a special accelerometer device on their wrist for a week. This device allows you to accurately measure a person's movements.
The results of the analysis showed that people who exercised at a moderate intensity for just three minutes a day had a significantly reduced risk of developing heart attacks, strokes and other types of cardiovascular diseases. At the same time, as the duration and level of daily movement increased, their health indicators improved even more.
Interestingly, the study also found that women were more likely to engage in casual physical activity than men. Scientists explain this by the fact that women are more involved in housework and everyday tasks.
The authors of the study emphasize that the importance of simple daily movements should never be underestimated. Daily activities like cooking, cleaning, or gardening can help older adults maintain heart health. Scientists have found that even in old age, these small activities can help people live longer and healthier lives. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
