Apple releases update to fix dangerous vulnerability for Mac and iPhone

Apple has released a software update that fixes a dangerous vulnerability affecting both Mac and iPhone devices. This was reported by the MacRumors portal.

According to reports, updates released in late July — iOS 18.6 and macOS Sequoia 15.6 — fixed a critical vulnerability identified as CVE-2025-6558. The flaw allowed hackers to bypass Chrome browser security and execute arbitrary code.

More concerning is that the vulnerability also affected WebKit, the core engine behind the Safari browser and other Apple apps. Processing malicious web content through WebKit could potentially lead to system errors.

Although Google patched the issue in Chrome on July 15, due to the deep integration of WebKit into Apple’s operating systems, a dedicated update was required for iOS and macOS devices.

Currently, the technical details of the exploit remain undisclosed. Cybersecurity experts and Google agreed not to release information until the majority of users install the protective patches.
