Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) has conducted a search at the residence of Rostyslav Shurma, the former deputy head of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s office. This was reported by the German publication Der Spiegel.
According to the article, on July 15, law enforcement officials in the German state of Bavaria carried out the search at Shurma’s home in Starnberg at the request of NABU.
The search reportedly took place during a politically sensitive period — just one week after President Zelensky limited the powers of NABU and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO).
How the 41-year-old Shurma managed to relocate to Bavaria amid Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine remains unclear.
Previously, "Ukrainska Pravda" had reported that Shurma was dismissed from his role as deputy head of the presidential office for economic affairs due to a “conflict of interest and pressure from U.S. officials.”
Shortly thereafter, following media reports that his brother’s companies had benefited from Ukraine’s “green tariff” subsidy scheme, international partners began distancing themselves from Shurma.
Ukraine’s NV outlet added that the final decision to dismiss Shurma was made in the spring of 2024 following talks between Zelensky and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken. He was officially relieved of his duties on September 3, 2024.
