In recent weeks, US President Donald Trump’s rhetoric regarding Iran has changed dramatically. While he previously aimed to reach an agreement through negotiations, Trump is now considering joining Israel in striking Iran’s nuclear facilities. This shift has sparked serious concerns and needs on the international political stage.
Trump’s latest statements indicate a significant change in his position on the nuclear deal. Previously, he invited Tehran to diplomatic negotiations and even established direct contact through his special representative Steve Witkoff. But now, he has issued a harsh warning to Iran: “If you don’t agree, nothing will be left of your nuclear infrastructure.”
According to White House sources, Trump is seriously considering military action against Iran in the coming week. This is evident from his statements to journalists: “I may do it, I may not do it. Nobody can know what I will do.” This ambiguous yet threatening statement makes it difficult to predict US actions.
Major outlets like Bloomberg, ABC News, and The Wall Street Journal note that Trump’s stance has changed quickly. While recently he was discussing a possible deal with Iran, now he openly speaks about possibly joining military operations that could be launched by Israel. According to The New York Times and CNN, Iran is also preparing a response and is working on possible strikes against American bases.
Additionally, several scenarios regarding relations with Iran have been discussed within the US National Security Council. These include staying out of the conflict, helping Israel only with intelligence, or directly participating in military operations. As a result, Trump may have chosen a “balanced” solution—to help Israel through intelligence and diplomatic pressure.
Furthermore, President Trump called Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei an “easy target” and said the US knows exactly where he is, but for now has no intention of attacking him. After these words, he posted on Truth Social: “Surrender unconditionally!”—another sign that political threats have intensified.
US involvement in military aggression against Iran could have drastic consequences not only for the region but for the entire world. Stability in the Middle East could further erode, oil prices could soar, and the conflict could affect global geopolitical balance.
In addition, intelligence indicates that Iran is still far from fully developing nuclear weapons. The US Director of National Intelligence said so openly at a Senate hearing. But Israel does not trust this information and believes Tehran is almost at the threshold of a nuclear weapon. Therefore, Israel has started preparations for a special operation called “Waking Lion.”
According to The Wall Street Journal, Trump even tried to persuade Netanyahu to halt the attack, but this effort failed. This shows that Trump has serious doubts about which direction to take in Middle East policy as US president.
In his closed meetings, Trump reportedly wants to use the Israeli attack as a diplomatic pressure tool to force Iran back to the negotiating table. Jerusalem Post sources write that Trump even plans to give Iran a “final offer,” demanding it abandon uranium enrichment even for scientific purposes. However, Iran considers this proposal unrealistic and completely unacceptable.
Ultimately, while Trump’s rhetoric has changed, diplomatic channels remain open. According to ABC News, Trump, in addition to Witkoff, is planning to involve US Vice President JD Vance in the negotiations. However, Trump’s recent statements suggest he is leaning more toward force than a diplomatic solution.
If Tehran does not agree to a deal, the possibility of an even tougher response from the US and Israel becomes the most pressing issue. Decisions made in the coming days could be decisive not only for the region but for peace and security around the globe. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
