Education starts at the age of 6: a mandatory preparatory stage is introduced

According to the new presidential decree, the preschool education system in Uzbekistan will be fundamentally renewed. From now on, one-year preparatory groups for 6-year-old children will be introduced as the first stage of compulsory education.

Starting from the 2027-2028 academic year, children who have completed this preparatory stage will be issued an electronic certificate of the state standard. This document is subsequently recorded in the student's school certificate.

Also, in 2026-2028, it is planned to create state kindergartens "Yangi Avlod" in the regions of the republic. These institutions specialize in robotics, science, language learning, creative and physical development, and create a modern play and learning environment for children.

Importantly, the new system will be implemented in stages. In the 2026-2027 academic year, the admission procedure will remain the same - that is, children will be admitted to the 1st grade when they turn 7 years old.
