Uzbek citizen suspected of terrorist plot sentenced in Russia

A court verdict has been announced against Javokhir Davronovich Utkirov, an Uzbek citizen accused of involvement in terrorist activities in Russia. He was found guilty of committing crimes stipulated by several articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
According to court documents, in January 2023, he recorded a video message stating his readiness to act in the interests of the terrorist organization "Islamic State," which is banned in Russia. Later, it is said that, based on the organization's instructions, he took on the tasks of selecting a location for a possible attack, conducting reconnaissance, and preparing an explosive device.
According to reports, in September 2023, he traveled to Russia, prepared photo and video materials about some objects in Stavropol, and sent them to representatives of the organization. In December, it was noted that he purchased components for the explosive device.
The accused was detained on December 18, 2023. According to the court's decision, he was sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment: the first 5 years of the sentence will be served in prison, and the rest in a maximum-security colony. A fine of 1 million rubles has also been established. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force and can be appealed.
