The U.S. Department of Transportation has warned the state of Pennsylvania that it could lose nearly $75 million in federal funding. This warning follows the discovery of legal violations in the process of issuing Commercial Driver's Licenses (CDLs) within the state.
This statement was issued on November 20. According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Pennsylvania unlawfully issued commercial licenses to foreign nationals who were illegally residing in the United States.
The report noted that some of the license recipients were found to be "ineligible and unqualified." Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy emphasized that the state must revoke the unlawfully issued licenses and address the identified violations. Otherwise, the U.S. Department of Transportation will suspend federal funding allocations.
The department also stated that the arrest of Uzbek national Akhror Bozorov demonstrates the necessity of auditing licenses issued to foreign nationals—a process that began over the summer. Bozorov, originally from Uzbekistan, was wanted in his home country on charges of disseminating extremist materials.
In the United States, Bozorov worked as a truck driver based on a license issued in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, however, stated that Bozorov had been screened through the federal SAVE database, and no suspicious findings were uncovered.
