
Uzbekistan presented its environmental reforms and new mechanisms for environmental impact assessment at the 13th meeting of the Espoo Convention held in Geneva. The country’s delegation was led by Gayrat Mahamedov, Director of the State Environmental Expertise Center.
He provided information on the digitalization of environmental processes, updated procedures for EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) and SEA (Strategic Environmental Assessment), as well as efforts to expand public participation. The meeting discussed topics such as experience sharing between countries, enhancing the effectiveness of environmental assessments in the fields of energy, regional development, climate change, and biodiversity conservation.
Participants reviewed the monitoring of compliance with convention requirements, strengthening cooperation between Central Asian countries, and issues related to the use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in environmental efforts.
